U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Internship

The Office of Representative J. Luis "Lou" Correa California's 46th District
Washington, D.C. Office

Duration: August 2019 - October 2019

In this time, I regularly attended policy briefings on the Hill and prepared memorandums for the legislative staff. I contributed legislative research in the areas of Latino underrepresentation in the film industry and health inequities due to minority barriers. My duties also included preparing briefing and hearing materials for the Congressman. Moreover, I assisted with constituent relations by handling phone calls and hosting Capitol tours.

Favorite Part:

Throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to sit in on and attend hearings. I particularly enjoyed going to the first House Judiciary Committee hearing related to the impeachment inquiry. It was very partisan and intense. Although, I also attended Judiciary hearings where Members of both parties worked together to pass several bipartisan bills. I was able to witness and compare the two paths that hearings could take. Overall, it was reassuring to see that both parties indeed could work together since that is not how the media presents their relationship.
