I have been interning for my Congressional Representative, Donna E. Shalala, at her district office here in Miami, FL. My intern duties include assisting case workers with constituent cases, greeting constituents, and drafting correspondence to constituents and governmental agencies. Most constituent cases are immigration related which has opened my eyes to the many issues being experienced by the people of my community. But, it has been fulfilling to know that I am playing a role in helping my community and neighbors. This has been a unique situation as my internship has since ended due to COVID-19.
Favorite Part:
My favorite part was assisting one of the caseworkers with a visa request for a constituent. I drafted the correspondence to the relevant U.S. embassy, and the very next morning the visa was approved. Knowing that I played a role in helping a family in my community is such a gratifying feeling.
